Selenite is a crystalized form of gypsum. Its names comes from the Greek word for moon because the ancient Greeks believed that this crystal waxed and waned with the moon. This stone is very soft, it can even be scratched with a fingernail. It is also one of the few rocks that can be quickly dissolved in water. Even minor exposure to water will ruin the finish on this stone. This stone is mined in northern Africa. Selenite is associated with the (6th) third eye chakra.
