This unit will re-tap and enlarge the spark plug holes to accommodate the inserts.
Step 1: Be sure the cylinder you're working on is on the compression stroke to ensure valves are closed. Blow any debris from the spark plug area before removing spark plug. Step 2: Apply grease on the special thread cleaning tool to collect debris as threads are chased. Step 3: Be sure thread chaser goes in straight, slowly thread by hand into the spark plug hole. When you have the thread chaser going in straight use a 5/8 in. socket to slowly thread the chaser completely in until it bottoms out. Turn tap approx. 1-1/2 turns clockwise, then back the tap out 1/4 turn to break any burrs. Remove the thread chaser, and set aside for cleanup.
Step 4: Clean up around the spark plug hole and use compressed air to blow out any remaining debris that may have fallen inside the cylinder. Step 5: Match the new spark plug to the insert, (3/8, 7/16, 1/2, & 3/4 in. reach). Apply anti-seize to the plug threads, be sure not to get any on the electrode. Screw the threaded insert on to the spark plug.
Step 6: Once the insert and plug are threaded together, coat the threads of the insert with a high temperature RTV adhesive sealer. Again be sure not to get any on the electrode. Step 7: Thread the plug and insert into the chased spark plug hole and torque to factory specifications. Follow the RTV adhesive sealers directions in regard to cure time, don't start the engine until completely cured.
