Black powder coated steel BK-1138 window guard by John Sterling. Use only in non-sleeping areas: cannot be opened once installed. Install horizontally or vertically to protect double hung, sliders or casement windows. Meets New Jersey Code for Non-Sleeping Rooms. Basic 1130 window guards do not open once installed except when the mounting screws are drilled out. No locking channel or safety release pin nor screws come with this guard . Bar Spacing is 3.5 inches: Exceeds 4 inch recommended safety standard for child window bars. Bar Diameter is 5/16th Inch. Maximum protective opening: 34 inches opening height. Expands to fit 24 to 42 inch opening. Picture indicates configuration of guard . Made in USA by Knape and Vogt. NOTE: New Jersey Law now requires that the window guard covers the entire lower half of a double hung or single hung window, from the top of the sill to the bottom half of the upper sash, with less than a 4 inch gap above and below the guard.
