The rubber edged clamp holds your axe firm, and at the perfect angle, allowing the edge to be sharpened by the full width of the grindstone. Straight or curved edges can be followed with minimal effort. The jig is designed so that the rotation of the stone presses the axe firmly into the jig, so that you only need to hold and guide the axe with your hands. It also ensures a full contact, without additional pressure, meaning the tool won't overheat, and your axes lifespan is greatly increased (it sharpens the blade without dramatically taking off excess metal.)
