Low lead or Lead Free Law: On January 4, 2011 Congress signed into law the “Reduction of Lead in Drinking Water Act”.This bill amends the Safe Drinking Water Act by limiting the amount of lead for products that are in contact with drinking water to a maximum content of 0.25%. This law will take effect in January, 2014. After that it will be illegal to install products that do not meet the lead free requirements as defined in this bill. Manufacturers and importers will no longer be able to sell products that do not meet the new standards.
